Why Water Doesn’t Spray Even When the Motor Runs: Airlock Issue & Maintenance Guide for Battery Sprayers

Battery Sprayer Troubleshooting & Maintenance Guide
Problem: Motor Running but No Water Output
Why This Happens (Airlock Issue)
Sometimes air gets trapped inside the pump or suction pipe. This prevents water from flowing even when the motor is running. This condition is called an airlock, and it must be cleared manually.
Step-by-Step Solution to Remove Airlock
Step 1: Turn Off the Motor Immediately
Running the motor without water flow (dry running) can damage the pump over time.
Step 2: Check the Water Level in Tank
Ensure the tank is at least half full. If water level is too low, the motor will draw air instead of water.
Step 3: Inspect the Suction Pipe Inside Tank
- Verify the suction pipe is properly connected and fully submerged in water.
- Look for any holes, bends, or cracks that might allow air to enter.
Step 4: Prime the Pump (Remove Airlock)
You can use one of two methods:
Option A: Manual Suction
- Disconnect the spray gun or nozzle from the delivery pipe.
- Use your mouth or a suction syringe to draw air out of the pipe until water appears.
- As soon as water flows, reattach the spray gun and turn the motor on.
Option B: Gravity Method
- Remove the spray gun.
- Lower the hose below tank level to allow water to flow by gravity.
- Wait until water flows out steadily.
- Reattach the nozzle and restart the motor.
Step 5: Check for Air Leaks
Tighten all pipe joints and clamps securely. Even a small air leak in the suction line can prevent water from flowing.
Step 6: Clean the Filter and Nozzle
- Remove and rinse the filter inside the tank inlet.
- Detach the spray nozzle and clear any blockage using a pin or water jet.
Step 7: Test the Sprayer
Turn on the motor. The sprayer should now deliver water consistently.
Tips for Extended Battery and Motor Life
Battery Care
- Charge the battery fully after every use.
- Never allow the battery to discharge completely.
- Use only the original charger.
- Remove the charger once fully charged (typically after 6–8 hours).
- If the sprayer sits unused for extended periods, charge the battery once every 15–20 days.
Motor Care
- Never run the sprayer without water.
- If the sprayer is idle for more than two weeks, run it once with clean water to prevent rust.
- Keep the motor area dry and avoid prolonged exposure to water or direct sunlight.
General Sprayer Maintenance
- Wash the tank after every use. Do not leave chemical solutions inside.
- Use only recommended pesticides or approved liquids to avoid pump damage.
- Store in a cool, dry location away from children.
- Regularly inspect pipes, clamps, and washers for wear and damage.
