Complete Maintenance & Troubleshooting Guide for 4-Stroke Knapsack Power Sprayers

Your HYMATIC 4-stroke power sprayer is designed for durability and high performance. In this guide, we cover essential maintenance tips, common troubleshooting steps, and expert advice to keep your 25-litre backpack sprayer running smoothly in the field.

Overview of 4-Stroke Knapsack Power Sprayers

4-stroke power sprayers are fuel-efficient, low-vibration machines ideal for agricultural and commercial spraying. Unlike 2-stroke models, they don't require fuel-oil mixing and are easier to maintain — if done correctly.

Routine Maintenance Checklist

Daily (Before or After Each Use)

  • Check fuel level (use only clean, unleaded petrol).
  • Inspect the air filter for dust buildup.
  • Clean the spray gun nozzle.
  • Flush the tank and pump system with clean water (especially after chemical use).
  • Check hose and pipe for kinks, cracks, or leakage.

Weekly

  • Clean or replace the air filter.
  • Inspect spark plug (clean or replace if fouled).
  • Check oil level (engine oil – 10W30 grade).
  • Tighten all bolts, fasteners, and clamps.

Monthly

  • Drain and replace engine oil (after 20–25 hours of usage).
  • Inspect recoil starter and fuel lines.
  • Lubricate moving parts like throttle cable, trigger lever, etc.

Common Troubleshooting Guide

Engine Does Not Start

Possible Causes:

  • Empty fuel tank
  • Dirty or choked carburetor
  • Spark plug dirty or damaged
  • Engine oil below safe level (some models have auto-shutoff)

Fix:

  • Refill fresh petrol
  • Clean carburetor using carb cleaner
  • Remove spark plug, clean or replace
  • Check oil level and refill

Engine Starts but Sprayer Doesn't Spray

Possible Causes:

  • Clogged suction pipe or filter
  • Nozzle blocked
  • Pump airlock
  • Pressure regulator stuck

Fix:

  • Clean inlet filter and suction hose
  • Flush and clean nozzle tip
  • Prime the pump manually (let gravity flow or remove nozzle)
  • Adjust pressure knob

Spray Pressure Is Low

Possible Causes:

  • Worn-out piston or diaphragm
  • Loose fittings causing air leak
  • Nozzle partially blocked

Fix:

  • Replace piston/seals (if worn)
  • Check all pipe connections
  • Clean or replace the nozzle

Fuel & Oil Tips

  • Use only clean, unleaded petrol — contaminated fuel can damage the carburetor.
  • For engine oil, use SAE 10W30 grade. Top up only when the engine is cool.
  • Never mix oil into the fuel — this is a 4-stroke engine, not 2-stroke.

Storage & Seasonal Care

  • Drain fuel completely to avoid gum deposits.
  • Run engine until it stops to empty the carburetor.
  • Clean tank and filter.
  • Cover and store in a dry place.

Safety Reminders

  • Never refuel a hot engine — wait 10–15 minutes after operation.
  • Always wear gloves, mask, and protective eyewear when spraying chemicals.
  • Keep away from open flames or heat while using or refueling.
